Calculus Roundtable Executive Director Jim Hollis to Help Lead Statewide Math Symposium in Seaside, CA
Richmond, CA – September 2, 2025
Calculus Roundtable is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Jim Hollis, will play a key role in the upcoming California Math, Science & Computer Science (CAL-MSCS) Symposium, to be held October 21–22, 2025, at the Embassy Suites Monterey Bay Seaside. Hollis, who served as the keynote speaker at the February convening, is a continuing member of the statewide Math, Science & Computer Science leadership network. At this fall’s convening, he will guide county offices of education in implementing innovative family engagement strategies from the 2023 California Math Framework.
As part of this work, Calculus Roundtable has developed a Family Engagement Rubric, a practical tool that helps districts, schools, and county offices of education assess their current practices and identify clear steps to bring families in as partners and cheerleaders for math success.
“Engaging families as partners in math learning is critical to student success,” said Hollis. “With our Family Engagement Rubric, we can help schools see where they are and chart a path forward to stronger collaboration with parents and guardians.”
Hollis added, “We want to ensure families from all communities—urban, suburban, and rural feel welcomed and empowered as advocates for their children’s success in math. Every family has a role to play as a cheerleader for math learning.”
The CAL-MSCS Symposium brings together math leaders, instructional staff, and community partners from across California to share best practices and shape professional learning that centers families, strengthens instruction, and improves student outcomes.

For many students Calculus Roundtable is the only form of extracurricular STEM-based activities in their lives.
