Angie Forster serves on the Calculus Roundtable Board and brings experience as a video game designer and technology professor. She is currently furthering her education at the Wharton School, strengthening the strategic and business perspective she brings to the organization. Angie has helped recruit computer technology students to support Calculus Roundtable’s programs and workforce pathways. She also helped develop Think Like a Game Designer, one of the organization’s most popular programs, which uses creativity, technology, and problem-solving to introduce young people to game design and STEM careers.

Arazeli Barragan is a valued member of Calculus Roundtable and an emerging professional who currently works with the UC Berkeley School of Information. As a fairly recent college graduate, she brings a fresh perspective on higher education, technology, and the transition from college into the workforce. Arazeli’s experience strengthens Calculus Roundtable’s understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing today’s students. Her commitment to education and technology aligns with the organization’s mission to help historically underserved young people build confidence, explore STEM careers, and develop pathways to college and professional success.

Dr. Chétna Rao is a new member of Calculus Roundtable and a former Director of Research at Bristol Myers Squibb. Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Rao has contributed scientific expertise, research leadership, and a deep understanding of how innovation can improve lives and strengthen communities. Dr. Rao brings to Calculus Roundtable valuable experience at the intersection of science, leadership, and real-world impact. Her perspective will help the organization strengthen STEM learning opportunities, expose students to a broader range of science and healthcare careers, and connect classroom learning with professional pathways. Dr. Rao’s commitment to education and opportunity aligns with Calculus Roundtable’s mission to ensure that students from historically underserved communities can see themselves as the scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals, and innovators of the future.

Dr. Jeremy Frank is a valued Calculus Roundtable member whose work with NASA connects students to the wonders of space, science, and exploration. He demonstrates how classroom mathematics and science help us understand the universe and solve real-world problems. Dr. Frank has engaged students through Pi Day, the Bay Area Black Youth Tech-a-Thon, Space Camp, and the Math and Science of Indigenous Peoples project. Jeremy’s involvement makes space exploration accessible while inspiring historically underserved students to imagine themselves pursuing STEM careers.

Kalpana Jain is a valued member of Calculus Roundtable and serves as Dean of Mathematics at a community college in New Jersey. Her leadership in higher education brings important insight into mathematics instruction, student achievement, and the academic preparation students need to succeed in college. Kalpana’s experience strengthens Calculus Roundtable’s efforts to connect K–12 mathematics learning with college and career pathways. Her commitment to educational opportunity aligns with the organization’s mission to help students from historically underserved communities build confidence, strengthen their mathematics skills, and envision successful futures in STEM.

Giovanni Coleman is a dedicated teacher in the Hayward Unified School District and a valued member of the Calculus Roundtable community. With more than 25 years of experience as an educator, Ms. Coleman brings a wealth of classroom knowledge and a deep understanding of what students need to learn, grow, and succeed. Throughout her career, Ms. Coleman has remained committed to creating supportive and engaging learning environments where every student feels seen, encouraged, and capable of achieving at a high level. Her experience, compassion, and dedication to educational equity align closely with Calculus Roundtable’s mission to expand academic opportunity and strengthen pathways to success for historically underserved students. She believes in the power of education to build confidence, open doors, and help young people recognize their full potential.

Giles Baker is a valued Calculus Roundtable member whose corporate experience strengthens our workforce development initiatives and connects STEM education with the skills and career pathways students need to succeed. Giles also volunteers directly with programs at in-school events, including the Black Youth Tech-a-Thon and Pi Day. His expertise and service build connections among education, industry, and opportunity while exposing Black youth and other historically underserved students to technology, innovation, and STEM careers.

Joe Rakauskas is a valued member of Calculus Roundtable and a retired senior finance executive. His extensive leadership experience brings the organization valuable insight into financial planning, responsible stewardship, and long-term sustainability. Joe’s financial perspective helps Calculus Roundtable strengthen its foundation as it expands programs and partnerships. Joe’s service supports the organization’s mission to provide historically underserved students with high-quality mathematics education, meaningful STEM experiences, and pathways to college and career success.

Karl Welch serves as President of the Calculus Roundtable Board of Directors, providing strategic leadership as the organization expands. He helps strengthen governance, sustainability, partnerships, and the organization’s commitment to the students and communities it serves. A passionate advocate for educational equity, Karl helps connect STEM learning with future careers. He has supported the Automobile of the Future project, which introduces students to emerging technologies, engineering, and automotive careers. As Board President, he is committed to expanding high-quality mathematics and STEM opportunities for historically underserved students.

Michelle Bernard is a valued member of Calculus Roundtable, an attorney, and a respected political commentator who has appeared on PBS, NBC, CNN, and other national media outlets. She has also served on the board of trustees at Howard University, bringing significant experience in leadership, public affairs, and higher education. Michelle is deeply involved in Calculus Roundtable’s HBCU Pilgrimage Program, which introduces students to the academic life, culture, and opportunities available at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. During these visits, students tour an HBCU campus and participate in science discussions with professors and college students. Her involvement helps young people envision themselves succeeding in college and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Patricia “Pat” GoPaul is an accomplished attorney based in Oakland and a valued new member of the Calculus Roundtable community. Through her legal experience, Pat brings thoughtful analysis, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to serving others. Pat believes in the power of education to expand opportunity and create lasting change for young people, families, and communities. Her professional perspective and dedication to equity align closely with Calculus Roundtable’s mission to ensure that historically underserved students have access to high-quality mathematics and STEM learning opportunities. Pat is committed to helping Calculus Roundtable strengthen its foundation, broaden its impact, and prepare more students for success in school, careers, and life.
