In the nine counties that comprise the California Bay Area, there are less than 100 African American students enrolled in a Calculus class. This along with a number of other key indicators has made an imperative for smart, forward thinking solutions.
The Digital One Room Schoolhouse (DORS), is a safe and rigorous after school program that can happen anywhere - at any time. At home, school or on the way to practice. DORS builds confidence by building mastery of skills.
Community Needs & Program Overview
DORS shows that after school programs can be more than midnight basketball. They can be safe, rigorous , aligned to high standards and fun. The impacts of DORS includes social/emotional benefits beyond academic excellence. Our activities lead to increased engagement in learning. DORS uses the power of social media to empower children (particularly with those of color), and their families to think big!
DORS is teaching children of color higher level math concepts by connecting them to a world of study at their own pace. It allows students to dig deep into a single subject so that they master individual skills for the purpose of learning, not testing. The DORS program moves students from Algebra all the way through Calculus with online interactive standards based fun curriculum that measures progress and growth.
